For concerned parents - Evaluating micropenis

How can I tell if my baby's or boy's penis is within the normal rage for his age?

This a very common question, asked by parents concerned that their son may have a micropenis. And this is the question I will try to answer in this post.

The first thing to do is to evaluate your boy's penis size properly. To do that, you must stretch the penis gently and measure it from the bone at the base and all the way up to the tip. Make sure to depress the surrounding fat pad, to reach all the way down to the base of the penis. Please also check the "Do I have a micropenis" article to get a good idea of the process.

Since the process is a bit tricky (and possibly embarrasing for the child), I think it's best if the examination is performed by a trained physician. The physician will not only measure your son's penis accurately but will also evaluate the presence of other congenital abnormalities, that may give the impression of a micropenis (e.g. penile curvature or buried penis). Furthermore, a micropenis is often accompanied by other ailments for which only a specialist can give proper advice!

The table at the end of the article shows the normal penis size in inches for each age group. If your son's penis is close to the abnormal column then  there is a good chance he has a micropenis.

If your doctor tells you everything is ok but you are still concerned that your son has a micropenis I urge you to get a second opinion! I have received many mails from guys who were tested for micropenis when they were young and the doctor failed to recognize the problem! In many cases, the doctor said something along the lines "will grow with time" or something similar. Some times this is pure bullshit! If your son has a micropenis it won't grow over time. If he doesn't receive hormonal treatment before puberty he will be stuck with a small penis for the rest of his life. And guess who he'll blame when he is older? You for not giving him proper medical attention. If you want to know more about hormonal treatment please check out this link and this link!

If the doctor gives you bad news, don't worry. When applied early before puberty, testosterone therapy has a good success ratio, about 80-90 % of treated boys attain a normally sized penis later in adulthood.
